If you have an opportunity to get your hands on one of these banjos for under 1200 I would def. Everything else is as would be expected on a very high end import. Tuners are ok nothing fancy but stay in tune well. Tried to ask the company what year it was made and never got a response via email. Finish seems thick and is flawless with the exception of the checking on back of the neck. Hardware is holding up very well as well is the gold plating. Only visual issue was a small amount of finish checking on upper part of back of the neck below headstock. Vine inlay is very well done very little filler. Be far the best looking banjo I have seen in person. Now with a head at 91 on drum dial and kateyez pruple heart bridge it sounds perfect. Action was a little high and the head was not tight.

Setup was OK from shop that i purchased from on ebay. I have played a friends Earl Scruggs gibson and the Alvarez blew it out of the water but I'm sure that has ALOT to do with setup. I have many other banjos is this is the best for Bluegrass sound along with my RB250. I didn’t totally strip down the banjo so I don’t know what the ring is made of (Brass or Potmetal). Light pitting on some of the hardwear but it’s to be expected. Over all for being about a 40 year old banjo it’s held up well. The only thing I don’t like are the huge tuners (60’s Thunderbird style) and the weird inlay on the resonator. I was able to easily adjust the neck angle to suit my playing and bridge height without recutting the heel. I’m really impressed with the coordinator rod setup that allows the neck angle to be moved up or down by the Alvarez designed lower rod. She had a handmade pine stick for a bridge. The previous owner didn’t know any thing about banjos. Playing BG, and after a Remo new head (had a clear head on it) fresh strings and presto tailpiece it sounds amazing, for what it is Price Paid: 300 ($US) (bought USED) Sound Submitted by buckholler ( see all reviews from this person) on
